🇰🇳Saint Kitts and Nevis

Saint Kitts and Nevis is a two-island nation located in the Caribbean Sea, a member of the Commonwealth, and the smallest sovereign state in the Western Hemisphere.

The islands are volcanic in origin. Saint Kitts is larger and more mountainous, dominated by Mount Liamuiga, a dormant volcano. Nevis is smaller and more conical, also featuring a central peak, Nevis Peak. Both islands are fringed by coral reefs and have beautiful beaches.

Kittitian and Nevisian culture is a blend of African, British, and Caribbean traditions. Music, particularly calypso and soca, plays a significant role. The annual Carnival, celebrated around Christmas, is a major cultural event featuring parades, music, and dance.

Originally inhabited by indigenous Kalinago people, Saint Kitts and Nevis was colonized by both the French and British in the 17th century, with the British eventually gaining sole control. The islands abolished slavery in 1834 and gained full independence from the United Kingdom on September 19, 1983.
