🇧🇶Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba

Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba are three small Caribbean islands that form special municipalities of the Netherlands, collectively known as the Caribbean Netherlands. Though geographically scattered across the Caribbean, they share Dutch governance and use the US dollar as currency. Each island has its own distinct character, from diving paradise to volcanic peak.

Bonaire lies off the coast of Venezuela in the Leeward Antilles, a flat, arid island ringed by some of the world's finest coral reefs. Sint Eustatius and Saba sit far to the north in the Lesser Antilles; Saba is a steep volcanic cone crowned by Mount Scenery, the highest point in the entire Kingdom of the Netherlands. The climate across all three is warm and tropical.

The islands blend Dutch administration with Caribbean, African and Latin American influences. Papiamentu and English are widely spoken alongside Dutch, and island life centres on the sea, diving, and close-knit communities. Bonaire in particular is renowned globally among scuba divers.

Long contested among European powers, the islands passed to the Netherlands and were long administered as part of the Netherlands Antilles. When that federation was dissolved in 2010, the three islands became special municipalities directly within the Netherlands, adopting the US dollar shortly afterward.
