The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a country in Western Asia located at the northeast end of the Arabian Peninsula. It is bordered by Oman to the east and Saudi Arabia to the south and west, and shares maritime borders with Qatar and Iran.

The UAE is characterized by a desert landscape, with vast sand dunes and some mountainous areas in the east. The coastline is extensive, featuring numerous islands and coastal plains. The climate is predominantly hot and arid, with high humidity along the coast.

Emirati culture is a blend of Islam, Arab traditions, and the country's Bedouin heritage. It emphasizes hospitality, family, and religious observance. Arabic is the official language, though English is widely spoken. Traditional clothing, music, and cuisine are important aspects of Emirati identity.

The area that now constitutes the UAE was historically inhabited by nomadic tribes and later came under loose Ottoman suzerainty. In the 19th century, the British signed treaties with the local rulers, establishing the Trucial States. Following the British withdrawal in 1971, six of the emirates united to form the UAE, with Ras al-Khaimah joining in 1972.
