Colima

Colima is one of the smallest states in Mexico, on the Pacific coast, known for its beaches, active volcano and the major port of Manzanillo. Its capital is also called Colima. Compact and prosperous, it blends seaside resorts with a busy commercial port and fertile farmland.

Colima stretches from Pacific beaches up to the towering Colima Volcano, one of the most active in Mexico, shared with neighboring Jalisco. It also administers the remote Revillagigedo Islands far offshore. The climate is tropical on the coast.

The state has a relaxed Pacific coastal culture, with a strong tradition of the pre-Hispanic Colima dog ceramic figures, regional cuisine and seaside tourism. Manzanillo is famed as a sport-fishing destination.

Home to ancient western Mexican cultures known for distinctive pottery, Colima was an early Spanish settlement on the Pacific. It became a Mexican state in 1857 and grew around its port and agriculture.
