Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is a sovereign island city-state in maritime Southeast Asia. It is one of the most densely populated countries in the world and a global financial centre.

Singapore is an island country located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, 137 kilometers north of the equator. It consists of one main island, Singapore Island, and 62 smaller islets. The country has a tropical rainforest climate with no distinct seasons, characterized by high humidity and abundant rainfall.

Singapore is a multicultural and multi-religious society, with a population comprising Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Eurasian ethnic groups. This diversity is reflected in its cuisine, languages (English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil are official languages), festivals, and traditions. English is the working language and the most common language used in business and administration.

Singapore was founded as a British trading post in 1819 by Sir Stamford Raffles. It became a self-governing state in 1959 and was separated from Malaysia in 1965 to become an independent republic. Since independence, Singapore has transformed into a highly developed country with a strong and dynamic economy.
