Tripura

Tripura is a small state in northeastern India, almost surrounded by Bangladesh, known for its lush hills, palaces and tribal heritage. Its capital is Agartala. Once a princely kingdom, it blends Bengali and indigenous tribal cultures in a compact, green landscape.

Tripura is a hilly state of forested ranges and fertile valleys, with a humid subtropical climate and heavy monsoon rains. Bamboo and rubber plantations are widespread, and the terrain is dotted with lakes and rivers.

Tripura's culture combines a Bengali-speaking majority with numerous indigenous tribal communities, each with distinct traditions, dance and crafts. Bamboo and cane handicrafts are notable, along with palaces such as Ujjayanta in Agartala.

Ruled for centuries by the Manikya dynasty, one of the longest-reigning royal lines in the world, Tripura was a princely state that merged with India in 1949 and became a full state in 1972.
