Niue is a self-governing island nation in free association with New Zealand, located in the South Pacific Ocean, east of Tonga and southwest of Samoa. It is often referred to as 'The Rock of Polynesia'.

Niue is one of the world's largest coral islands, with a total land area of 261.46 square kilometers (100.95 sq mi). It is characterized by steep cliffs and coastal caves, with a fertile limestone plateau at its center. Niue has no rivers.

Niuean culture is a blend of Polynesian traditions, with strong family ties and respect for elders. The Niuean language, alongside English, is widely spoken. Traditional crafts include weaving, carving, and tapa cloth making. Music and dance play a significant role in celebrations.

Niue was settled by Polynesians around the 10th century. It was visited by Europeans in the 18th century, with Captain James Cook landing in 1774. Niue became a British protectorate in 1900, and in 1974, it gained self-governance in free association with New Zealand.
