Wisconsin

Wisconsin is a Midwestern US state on the Great Lakes, famous for dairy farming, beer and a passionate sports culture. Its capital is Madison, while Milwaukee is the largest city. Nicknamed the Badger State, it is affectionately known as America's Dairyland.

Wisconsin is bordered by Lake Michigan and Lake Superior, with rolling farmland, northern forests, thousands of lakes, and the scenic Door Peninsula and Wisconsin Dells. The climate is humid continental, with cold, snowy winters.

Wisconsin culture is built around dairy and cheese, brewing heritage centered in Milwaukee, and intense devotion to teams like the Green Bay Packers. German, Polish and Scandinavian roots, supper clubs and festivals shape its character.

Home to the Ho-Chunk, Menominee and Ojibwe peoples, Wisconsin became the 30th state in 1848. It developed through lead mining, logging, dairy farming and brewing, and was a center of the Progressive political movement.
