Georgia

Georgia is a southeastern US state stretching from the Appalachian Mountains to the Atlantic coast, blending deep Southern heritage with the dynamic modern metropolis of Atlanta, its capital and largest city. Nicknamed the Peach State, it is a major economic and cultural center of the South.

Georgia ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains in the north through the rolling Piedmont, where Atlanta sits, to the coastal plain and the marshes and barrier islands of the Atlantic shore near Savannah. The climate is humid subtropical.

Georgia is known for Southern hospitality, soul food, and a rich musical legacy spanning gospel, R&B and hip-hop. Atlanta is a hub of business, film production and African American culture, and the state cherishes historic Savannah and its civil rights heritage.

One of the original Thirteen Colonies, Georgia became the 4th state in 1788. It was central to the cotton economy and the Confederacy, devastated during the Civil War, and later a key battleground and birthplace of leaders in the Civil Rights Movement, including Martin Luther King Jr.
