Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan is a Canadian prairie province known for its golden wheat fields, big skies and abundant natural resources. Its capital is Regina, while Saskatoon is the largest city. A leading producer of grain and potash, it sits at the agricultural heart of Canada.

Saskatchewan is largely flat to gently rolling prairie in the south, giving way to forests, lakes and the Canadian Shield in the north. It is one of only two landlocked Canadian provinces. The climate is continental, with very cold winters and warm summers.

Saskatchewan culture is grounded in farming, ranching and tight-knit rural communities, with strong Indigenous and immigrant prairie heritage. It has a passion for the Canadian Football League and a reputation for friendliness and open spaces.

Home to the Cree, Saulteaux and other First Nations and the Metis, the region was opened by the railway and homesteading before joining Canada as a province in 1905. Agriculture and resource extraction have long defined its economy.
