New Brunswick

New Brunswick is a Canadian maritime province on the Atlantic coast, the only officially bilingual province in the country. Its capital is Fredericton, while Moncton and Saint John are major cities. Forested and coastal, it is home to the dramatic tides of the Bay of Fundy.

New Brunswick is heavily forested, with rolling hills, river valleys such as the Saint John, and a coastline on the Bay of Fundy, which has the highest tides in the world. The climate is humid continental, moderated near the coast.

New Brunswick is uniquely bilingual, with a large Acadian French-speaking population alongside English communities. Its culture blends maritime traditions, Acadian heritage and a strong sense of regional identity, with lively festivals and seafood cuisine.

Home to the Mikmaq, Maliseet and Passamaquoddy peoples and to French Acadians, the area was shaped by the Acadian expulsion and later Loyalist settlement after the American Revolution. New Brunswick was a founding province of Canada in 1867.
